What this treatment can help with.

IPL and ResurFX solve different skin concerns. Vanessa assesses your skin first, then recommends the technology and treatment series that fits your goal.

Common concerns

  • Sun damage and dark spots
  • Redness and visible vessels
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Fine lines and rough texture
  • Acne scars and other textural concerns

Why patients choose it

  • Non-surgical skin renewal
  • Treatments selected for your skin and concern
  • Minimal downtime compared with ablative resurfacing
  • Progressive improvements as collagen renews

Vanessa’s approach

Color and texture are different problems.

IPL is most useful when the concern contains a target the light can see, such as unwanted brown pigment or visible vascular redness. It does not mechanically resurface an acne scar or correct every type of discoloration.

Vanessa identifies the concern, reviews skin tone, sun exposure and medications, then selects the filter and settings for the target. If texture is the main problem, she may recommend ResurFX instead of adding more IPL sessions.

Treatment planning

Where this treatment may help.

The right area depends on the cause of the concern, your anatomy and whether this treatment is the safest useful tool.

01

Sun spots and freckles

Selected brown pigment can absorb IPL energy, darken temporarily and then fade as the skin clears the treated pigment.

02

Facial redness

IPL may reduce diffuse redness and small visible vessels in appropriate skin types. Rosacea is chronic, so treatment manages visible signs rather than curing the condition.

03

Neck and chest

Sun-related color changes and redness can extend below the face. These thinner, frequently exposed areas require thoughtful settings and sun protection.

04

Hands and selected body areas

Brown spots on sun-exposed hands or body areas may be considered after the lesions are assessed and treatment suitability is confirmed.

01

IPL and ResurFX solve different skin problems

IPL, or intense pulsed light, delivers selected wavelengths of light to visible pigment and vascular targets. It is commonly considered for sun spots, freckles, diffuse redness, rosacea-related appearance, and visible vessels. ResurFX is a non-ablative fractional laser that creates controlled treatment zones below the skin’s surface to support collagen remodeling and improve texture.

These technologies are complementary, but they are not interchangeable. Brown spots or redness may point toward IPL, while acne scars, fine lines, stretch marks, or textural irregularity may be better suited to ResurFX. Some patients benefit from a sequenced plan that addresses color first and texture separately.

02

Why skin assessment and settings matter

Successful energy-based treatment begins with an accurate diagnosis of what is creating the discoloration or texture. Not every brown patch is the same, active tanning changes risk, and certain medications, medical conditions, or skin histories can affect candidacy. Dermalier reviews these factors before selecting a device or treatment setting.

Vanessa customizes wavelength or filter selection, energy, pulse characteristics, cooling, and treatment density to the skin and concern being treated. More aggressive settings are not automatically better. The safest effective plan respects skin tone, recent sun exposure, sensitivity, and the amount of recovery a patient can accommodate.

03

What improvement can look like

After IPL, targeted pigment may temporarily appear darker before flaking or fading, while redness can gradually look calmer. After ResurFX, the skin may feel warm and appear red or swollen before texture changes emerge over the following weeks as the healing response progresses.

A series is commonly recommended because skin concerns develop over time and respond incrementally. Maintenance, daily sunscreen, and a compatible home-care routine help protect the investment. Exact treatment count, recovery, and expected outcome are established only after an in-person skin assessment.

Choose the right tool

IPL, ResurFX or skincare?

Similar-sounding treatments can solve different problems. This is how Vanessa separates them during consultation.

OptionBest suited toWhat to know
M22 IPL photofacial

Selected brown spots, freckles, redness and visible vessels.

IPL is broad-spectrum light, not a resurfacing laser. Recent tanning and some pigment conditions can increase risk.

ResurFX laser

Texture, fine lines, selected acne scars and fractional collagen remodeling.

ResurFX treats microscopic zones below an intact surface. Redness and swelling are expected, and improvement develops gradually.

Medical skincare

Daily pigment control, barrier support, acne care and protection between procedures.

Skincare and procedures can complement each other. A device cannot replace daily sun protection or treat every underlying condition.

What to expect

Here is how it works.

01

Assess

We evaluate your skin, goals, history, and suitability for light or laser treatment.

02

Treat

Your selected technology is applied using parameters tailored to your skin.

03

Renew

Visible changes develop over the following days and weeks; a series may be recommended.

The real timeline

What happens after the appointment.

Early swelling or redness is not the result. Here is when the treatment becomes meaningful to evaluate.

  1. During treatment

    Brief pulses of light

Patients often describe warmth or a quick snapping sensation. Eye protection and contact cooling are used during treatment.

  2. First 24–48 hours

    Redness or mild swelling

Targeted brown spots may look darker. The skin can feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn.

  3. One to two weeks

    Pigment clears gradually

Darkened spots may flake or fade. They should not be picked or scrubbed.

  4. Across a series

    Tone becomes more even

The number and spacing of sessions depend on the concern, skin response and seasonal sun exposure.

Appointment guidance

How to prepare and care for your result.

These general guidelines support a better consultation. Your individual instructions may differ.

Preparing for consultation

  • Disclose medications, supplements, medical conditions, photosensitivity, pigmentation history, recent procedures, and any tendency toward abnormal scarring.
  • Avoid tanning and report recent sun exposure or sunburn; treatment may need to be postponed for safety.
  • Follow the pre-treatment skin-care plan provided by Dermalier, including any instructions about active products.

Aftercare and follow-up

  • Use gentle skin care and diligent broad-spectrum sun protection while the skin recovers.
  • Do not pick or scrub darkened pigment, flaking areas, or dry skin; allow the normal recovery process to occur.
  • Contact the clinic if redness, swelling, blistering, pain, or pigment change is more intense or persistent than expected.

Candidacy

Who may be a good fit?

A consultation confirms candidacy. These points help you understand the kind of patient the treatment may suit.

It may fit if

  • You have selected sun spots, freckles, redness or visible vessels.
  • Your skin tone and pigment history are appropriate for the proposed settings.
  • You can avoid tanning and use diligent sun protection before and after treatment.
  • You understand that a series and maintenance may be needed.

Treatment may need to wait

  • Recent tanning, sunburn or inability to avoid intense sun exposure
  • An active infection, open skin or concerning lesion in the treatment area
  • Photosensitizing medication or a medical history that changes light-treatment risk
  • Melasma or another pigment condition that may worsen with heat or light

Planning your investment

What determines IPL photofacial cost?

Price depends on the treatment area, whether one or several filters are needed and the number of sessions recommended. Face-only treatment and a plan that includes the neck, chest or hands are different appointments.

Vanessa will explain whether a single session is reasonable or whether the concern is more likely to benefit from a series. Dermalier does not promise that every pigment or redness concern will clear in one visit.

IPL & ResurFX FAQs

Questions, answered.

These are general answers. Vanessa will make them specific to you during your consultation.

What is the difference between IPL and ResurFX?

IPL uses broad-spectrum light to target pigment and redness. ResurFX is a non-ablative fractional laser used primarily for texture, scars, fine lines, and collagen renewal.

How many treatments will I need?

The number depends on your skin, concern, and response. Many patients benefit from a series followed by maintenance, which will be discussed at consultation.

Is there downtime?

Redness, warmth, or mild swelling may occur. Your exact aftercare and expected recovery depend on the treatment chosen and its intensity.

Does IPL treat rosacea and facial redness?

IPL may reduce the appearance of diffuse redness and visible vessels associated with some rosacea presentations, but it does not cure rosacea. An assessment is needed to determine whether the redness is suitable for light-based treatment.

Can ResurFX help acne scars?

ResurFX may improve selected atrophic acne scars and uneven texture by supporting fractional collagen remodeling. Scar type, depth, skin tone, active acne, and prior treatments influence whether it is the appropriate option.

Can IPL and ResurFX be used on areas other than the face?

Depending on the concern and candidacy, areas such as the neck, chest, hands, and selected body areas may be treated. The device, settings, treatment area, and recovery plan are determined during consultation.
