Biostimulation is different from simply filling a line
Biostimulators are injectable treatments selected to support collagen production and improve broader areas of structure or skin quality. Instead of chasing each individual crease, a plan may address the foundation of age-related volume change, laxity, or tissue quality across the cheeks, temples, jawline, lower face, neck, chest, or hands.
The change is designed to develop progressively. That makes treatment especially appealing to patients who prefer a gradual transition, but it also means the result should not be judged immediately after the appointment. Product, dilution, placement plane, and treatment sequence all depend on anatomy and the area being treated.
Sculptra and Radiesse are not the same product
Sculptra is made with poly-L-lactic acid and is used as part of a series to stimulate collagen over time. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel carrier and may provide initial support in addition to longer-term collagen stimulation. In selected areas, Radiesse may also be used in a hyperdilute approach focused more on skin quality.
Neither product is automatically the right answer for every face or body area. Vanessa considers tissue thickness, movement, degree and pattern of volume change, treatment history, timeline, and whether a hyaluronic acid filler or another modality would provide better control.
Where collagen support may make a difference
Facial aging is three-dimensional. Treating only the most visible fold can create weight without restoring the support around it. Preparing for consultation
- Discuss prior filler or biostimulator treatments, immune or inflammatory conditions, medications, supplements, dental plans, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any history of nodules or abnormal scarring.
- Plan around important events because swelling, tenderness, and bruising can occur even when downtime is limited.
- Complete photographs and a full-face assessment so the product and placement support the overall treatment plan.
Aftercare and follow-up
- Follow the product-specific massage and activity instructions given at the appointment; recommendations are not identical for every injectable.
- Expect temporary swelling, tenderness, firmness, or bruising and allow the early treatment effect to settle before evaluating the result.
